Custom bathroom renovations · Toronto & the GTA

Bathrooms designed
with your comfort in mind.

Materials hand picked just for you. Scope defined to meet your budget and goals. And the comfort of knowing the work behind the walls looks just as good as the finishes complementing them.

A bathroom renovation can be the best investment you'll ever make in your home, or the worst. It's the least forgiving room of all.

If it's not waterproofed properly, mould will begin to breed inside the walls without you ever knowing about it. If a curbless shower isn't sloped properly, you'll be standing in a shallow pool of cloudy grey water. And if anything ever needs to be corrected behind the walls or under the floors, your tiles are coming up.

Even then, all things considered, finishing all the little details in a bathroom takes patience and commitment. And that's not an easy thing to do when the phone is ringing non-stop and it's the next client on the other end asking about a start date.

So, how do you prevent all of this from happening in your own bathroom? Well, there's no magic bullet. A good bathroom renovation takes thoughtful planning and an experienced crew to do all the installations. The more your finishes cost, the lower your margin for error, and the better your installation has to be.

We don't take any short cuts, we plan every detail of your finished bathroom with you up-front, before the renovation. The crew then follows the drawings, takes photo and video documentation of everything under the floors and behind the walls, and sticks to the plan to make sure there's no unnecessary down time in your home.

We then do a final inspection before calling the job complete, and encourage you to do your own before the final walkthrough.

If you're curious about your own bathroom, book a discovery call, or read about the details of the process below.

Investment Ranges

How much does a bathroom renovation cost in Toronto?

Bathroom renovation prices are primarily dictated by the scope of work and the finishes you choose. We'll always give you options at a few different price points, and your fixed quote will always settle inside the range we recommend, unless the scope grows. Here's a starter guide to what a standard bathroom renovation costs in Toronto and the GTA, before HST.

Standard bathroom renovation
$20k to $30k

A standard 5x8 bathroom, full gut and rebuild: new tile, tub or shower, off the shelf or custom vanity, toilet, plumbing fixtures, shower glass and lighting.

Fully custom ensuite
$45k to $60k+

An ensuite bathroom with a new layout, moving walls, plumbing and electrical, a walk in shower and a freestanding tub, a custom vanity and upgraded finishes with a wider range of selections.

Pricing varies by size, materials, fixtures, and layout changes.
Final fixed cost estimates are produced during pre-construction. The number you sign off on is the number you pay.

Common Questions

The most common questions people ask during the discovery process.

If your question isn't here, ask us directly.

Here's what most bathroom renovations cost in Toronto and the GTA, before HST:

  • Tub to shower conversion, $10k to $15k. We take out the old tub and build a shower in its place, with a low curb, full waterproofing and a slip resistant floor.
  • Standard bathroom renovation, $20k to $30k. A standard 5x8 bathroom, full gut and rebuild: new tile, tub or shower, off the shelf or custom vanity, toilet, plumbing fixtures, shower glass and lighting.
  • Primary ensuite, $30k to $40k. A standard 10x9 ensuite in the same footprint, with a walk-in shower or a new bathtub, a single or double vanity, optional heated floors, shower glass, and upgraded fixtures and finishes.
  • Fully custom ensuite, $45k to $60k+. An ensuite bathroom with a new layout, moving walls, plumbing and electrical, a walk in shower and a freestanding tub, a custom vanity and upgraded finishes with a wider range of selections.
  • Luxury bathroom, $60k to $80k+. Full design package with 3D renders, custom millwork, quartz slab walls, heated floors, electrical and plumbing upgrades, high end fixtures and finishes throughout.

Your fixed quote will always settle inside the range we recommend, unless the scope grows.

It depends on the size of the bathroom, the scope of work and whether we need permits. From demo to final walkthrough:

  • Tub to shower conversion: 5 to 7 days
  • Standard bathroom: 3 to 6 weeks
  • Premium bathroom: 6 to 10 weeks
  • Luxury bathroom: 8 to 12 weeks

These times don't include pre-construction (3 to 8 weeks), where we set a detailed schedule before anything starts.

Usually, no. If you're updating tile, fixtures and the vanity in the same footprint, permits are not required. If you're doing any substantial structural or plumbing changes, we will need to apply for permits. We handle all permit applications in-house, you don't need to deal with the city.

In a full bathroom remodel, yes. A true curbless shower requires dropping the subfloor to allow the water to drain at 2% slope. A tub-to-shower conversion doesn't spill over into the rest of the bathroom, so we build a low curb instead, about 3.5" high compared to the usual 5-6", making it easy to step over.

It costs about $5 a month per bathroom. With a programmable thermostat, you can set a schedule to preheat your floors in the morning and evening, right when you're most likely to use the bathroom.

Yes. Our in-house design team plans your layout and curates your finishes, then recommends options for every selection, tile, vanities, plumbing fixtures, glass and lighting, so the choices feel easy instead of overwhelming. The same team that designs it also builds it, so nothing gets lost between the drawing and the install.

No. Mock ups, 2D and 3D renders and a line itemized estimate are paid consultative work, it's not work our team can absorb to do for free. They're part of pre-construction, once you've seen your recommended investment range and decided to move forward. Your discovery call is free, and by the end of it you'll have a clear picture of what's possible and what it should realistically cost, before you commit to anything.

Yes. We handle all material takeoffs, place orders, coordinate with vendors, and stay accountable to every detail of the build. Our trade relationships mean better pricing and product availability than sourcing independently, and we manage every delivery, return, and substitution so you don't have to chase anyone down. We warranty everything we supply and install. We aren't tied to any one brand, and we'll tell you honestly where the extra money is worth it.

Waterproofing. That means using nothing but Schluter Systems for your waterproofing membrane, installed by a crew that's done it hundreds of times, and a 24 hour flood test on any shower pan that calls for one. After that, a quiet exhaust fan (we recommend a Panasonic Whisper fan) vented to the outside, so moisture never has a chance to settle, and heated floors if the budget allows.

Yes, it's cheap, easy and smart. While the walls are open, we add solid wood blocking in the shower, beside the toilet and behind your towel bars and vanity. Once the tile is up, you're stuck with wherever the studs landed, and adding it later means opening the wall back up. We photograph every wall before the drywall goes on, so you'll always know where the blocking is when you need it.

Heated floors feel like a luxury, but they don't add much when you're already redoing the floor. Indirect lighting under the vanity and behind the mirror gives the room that spa feel, and a light in the shower keeps it from feeling like a cave. Run the wire for a towel warmer now, even if you add the warmer later, and plan where your towel bars and hooks go before the tile goes up. And add outlets where you'll actually use them: behind the toilet for a bidet seat, inside a vanity drawer for hair tools and inside the medicine cabinet for your electric toothbrush.

Put the shower valve on the entry side, so you can turn the water on without standing under a cold blast (some people love it, some not so much since it's unorthodox). Add a handheld shower on a slide bar along with your overhead shower head. For storage, a full length recessed shelf holds more than a small niche, and we line it up with the tile layout so the grout lines run clean. Pick a shower floor tile with some grip, and add a bench if there's room. For fixtures, we recommend Riobel. The lifetime warranty over the standard Moen valve is worth the upgrade.

You only need two sinks if you'll both use the bathroom at the same time. If you don't have the room or the plumbing for two, one long trough sink with two faucets gives you both your own spot and saves counter space. We set the vanity height to suit you, so tall people aren't bending over the sink.

A wall hung toilet shows the floor underneath, so the room looks bigger and cleans up faster. It needs a frame built into the wall to hold the tank, so it's easiest to plan into a full remodel. For a standard bathroom, we recommend a skirted toilet, with smooth sides that make it easier to clean. Add an outlet behind the toilet if you might want a bidet seat. And if there's room, give the toilet its own alcove with a door, so one person can use it while the other showers.

Fewer grout lines mean less cleaning. Full slab walls have no grout at all and cost the most, and large format tile is the middle ground. On the floor, a darker grout stays looking clean longer, but a dark floor tile shows every bit of dust and hair. Whatever you choose, we plan the tile layout before we install it, so the grout lines line up with your shelves, corners and fixtures.

Yes. As a CHBA Adaptiv Home Renovator, we design bathrooms that stay safe and easy to use for years to come: grab bars built into the design, curbless or low curb showers, built-in benches and slip-resistant floors, without making the room look clinical.

Talk to more than one, ask tough questions, and take the process seriously. Ask how they handle problems, mistakes, change requests and scheduling. Ask how they structure their pricing, what work they subcontract and what their cost assumptions are, so you know how they make their money. Check their references, and hire a team that has built what you want before.

Yes. We seal off the bathroom and keep the dust where the work is, so you can keep using the rest of the house. If it's your only bathroom, we'll do our best to condense the work into a shorter sprint by starting early and finishing later in the day, but you'll want a backup plan for showers during the build. (A shorter sprint is only available between Jan-March.)

The more you share with us up front, starting with your discovery call, the smoother your bathroom renovation will be. Most of your input happens early in the process: your goals, your habits and preferences, and the styles you love. From there, we curate 1 to 3 options for each selection in your Client Portal, so you're not stuck spending your evenings sourcing products that may or may not work. Once construction starts, your job is mostly to read our weekly or bi-weekly emails and approve change orders if they come up.

Changes are costly midway through a project. By then the materials are ordered, the crews and trades are booked, and we're in full production mode. Last minute changes can derail the plan, set the project back by weeks, and result in unplanned additional costs. This is why we spend so much time getting the plan right in pre-construction, with detailed drawings, 2D and 3D renders, and every selection made before we start. If you do change your mind once construction is underway, we'll price it and show you how it affects the schedule first.
